Calvert Laboratories has established a worldwide reputation as a leader in pharmacology since 1969.  Our pharmacologists are respected scientists recognized as industry leaders with the ability to customize lead development strategies as well as replicate sponsor-derived methodologies.

Discovery Pharmacology

Calvert offers services ranging from broad screening projects to specific mechanistic studies.  Select from many standard pharmacology models, or work with us to develop a customized model.  Calvert will tailor cost-effective strategies, which will characterize the pharmacological properties of your molecules quickly and thoroughly.

With more than 30+ years of experience, Calvert has excelled in many fields of Pharmacology. Most prominent, however, are the fields of
safety pharmacology, inflammation/ analgesia, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. Our discovery pharmacology programs in these fields are renowned within the industry. Calvert offers an anti-inflammation/analgesia program capable of an in vivo testing for COX1 , COX2 , PGE2 , PLA2 , and TNFa inhibitors.

Cardiovascular Pharmacology

In the area of cardiovascular pharmacology, Calvert is capable of offering lead development, customized protocol design and screening models of high sophistication.

Our experienced cardiovascular pharmacologists have established a reputation as leaders in customized protocol design which has led to the development of lead compounds resulting in proven efficiency in early clinical evaluations.

  • Hemodynamic Evaluation.  The classic anesthetized dog preparation (hemodynamic evaluation) allows for better control over measured parameters. Since this is one of the most frequently run safety pharmacology studies at Calvert, you get the confidence of reliable and accurate data collection.

  • Conscious, Telemeterized Models allow test article effects to be evaluated without interference or potential interaction with anesthesia. Telemetered studies are performed in the rat using the DSI System, with evaluations on heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, and Lead II ECG. The ITS telemetry system is used in the dog and primate. Animals are monitored from a remote location, eliminating artifacts induced by human handling, restraint, or tethers. With this system, data can be collected continuously for days, weeks or even months. This allows for a very thorough cardiovascular evaluation.

  • QT Prolongation Studies are becoming increasingly requested by regulatory bodies throughout the world. In vivo dog and guinea pig models to assess QT prolongation and our in vitro canine Purkinje fiber model to assess prolongation of APD are available.

Lead Identification

Using limited amounts of test article, Calvert can help determine initial in vivo activity or select the best lead from a series. Our recommendations, based on years of experience, help our clients make cost effective decisions using sound pharmacological information.

Lead Optimization

Fully characterized lead compounds using specific animal models are tailored to your compound's intended clinical indication. Calvert has a reputation for innovation by developing novel models and evaluation techniques that accommodate specific sponsor requests. Programs are in place in the areas of cardiovascular, CNS, inflammation/analgesia, metabolic diseases and cancer.

New Model Development

In addition to well over 100 standard in vivo pharmacological models, Calvert can work up a novel model from published literature or specific client request.
